July 10, 2006 - So Different From Home; Meeting "Father"

Hey! How are you! Things are great here.. its so different from home. Everyone is poor, they have houses made of crappy concrete and bamboo.. I don´t have any picturs of homes yet but i will send some next week. i CAN ONLY SEND emails on my p day which is monday. my companion is elder larson from Idaho, im sorry if there are mistakes on this, but the keyboard is slightly differant.

3 Generations: Elder H (son), Elder Larson (father), and Elder Lesu (grandfather)

my spanish is coming along, but the people here talk so darn fast!

What is she saying?

It is so hot also, and i sweat so much. last saturday, we had our first baptism, hermano fransisco. it was amazing! elder larson dunked him, but i have a feeling the work is going to start moving along fast real soon. so many funny things have happend already, for example, no one here speaks a lick of english, so me and elder larson go to teach this inactive family. the old father says hi and starts talking to us, hes wearing this bright yellow t shirt that has the words F+++ YOU on it!!!! in big black letters, Im elder larsons first english speaking comp, we´re just dying, it was great. I mean bad... elder larson is my ¨father¨, thats what missionaries say when they ¨have a kid¨ or a trainee. Larson is great, and the people are so ready for the gospel, I love it. we are going to the ecua temple this week thurday, and im so excited, becuase they have drinking fountains! you can´t drink the water, we have to use bottled.. and the flush toilets are so week sauce, that we are supposed to wipe, and throw it into the plastic lined trashbag with a lid.. asgéroso! yep, well, all is well, tell everyone you know to write me through pouch, since im only supposed to email family... and also, how are we going to sort out our package mailing situacion? well I LOVE YOU! and ill type more next p day!! Love You! Cíao!

sorry, i sent you some pics, one is of the baptism,

Hermano Francisco's baptism

the others are from the mtc the computer im using is way too slow... i have to find another a way to sent them..

May 3 to July 5, 2006 - MTC Life

Elder Heimuli mailed photos and handwritten letters faithfully every single week during his 9-week stay at the MTC, learning Spanish.

One tough teacher!

May 3, 2006 - See You in Two Years, Elder!

A tough day for the family as we fake-smiled our way through the morning. Let's just say the whole MTC experience -- where the family goes one way, and the missionary goes the other way -- is gut-wrenching. Yuck. Why can't it be less-sad, less-painful. With only one down and 3 (possibly 4) more to go, don't know how other parents do it. Sending off our first-born isn't easy, but Dad and Mom are so grateful for Hema's wonderful example to brothers, extended family, and friends. Pretty sure his example will impact Helam, (possibly) Hevynn, Houston & Harrison's mission decisions.

The day started off with just our little family, best friend Jordan, and the Lopez boys. Our last family breakfast all together for a couple of years...

Cousin Tama and his baby sister Kuuipo showed up at the MTC to say goodbye to Elder Heimuli

Hema, 12-year old sister Hevynn, and Isaac Lopez pose for one last pic together

What other missionary would take a pic like this right before entering the MTC? So funny!

May 2, 2006 - Setting Apart

Elder Heimuli was set apart as a full-time missionary by President Danny Broderick of the Bountiful Stone Creek Stake. As always, there were LOTS of family and friends there to support Hema!

Tomorrow will be an interesting day.
